The National Career Fair 2003, scheduled to be held at Hotel Taj Samudra in March, will bring in over 50 institutions that offer counselling on a range of careers. It will provide information on the vocational and skills training available in the country. The Rotary Club of Colombo East together with the Sri Lanka Anti-Narcotics Association will host the Fair for the third consecutive year on March 7, 8 and 9. “The three day fair will give ample opportunities for visitors to meet one to one with representatives and career counsellors of the participating institutions”, the President of the Rotary Club of Colombo East Bernie Dole said at a press conference. The Institutions will carry out programs on computer studies, business, tourism, education, vocational and higher studies, professional studies, arts and crafts. “It will be usefull for the students who wish to achieve their dream career or those who wish to learn about new fields of study. We must show them that career opportunities are available and guide them towards their goals”, he said. Over 20 professionals will address visitors at the Speakers Corner that will highlight the need for different skills needed in different industries. “They will enlighten the students on computer hardware, printing, civil engineering, accountancy, marketing, advertising, law, architecture, alternative medicine and beauty culture”, Dole said. The Fair will be assisted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Vocational Studies. School principals have been informed and a limited number of buses will be made available for students who wish to attend the Fair. The Fair held last year attracted over 5000 visitors and they are hoping for more this year. “The youth of this country need to have academic qualifications and vocational skills if they are to be gainfully employed. That is why this Career Fair is important for them”, Dole said. |
